Tis' the season...
Asymmetrical Garland by Erin Francois, @francois_et_moi
Whether you subscribe to the wait-til-after-Thanksgiving rule, or started decking the halls weeks ago, it’s officially time to get festive and begin decorating your home for the holidays. We’ve pulled together a quick list of easy tips to make the most of your holiday decorating, entertaining and gift giving.
Decorating
In the spirit of working with what you have, pare back your decor and go simple:
Decorate with meaningful pieces like heirloom candlesticks paired with contemporary taper candles, favorite handmade pieces, hand-me-down holiday art. It’ll make for a unique and personal look, and deter you from trendy impulse buys from big box stores.
Create inexpensive, organic arrangements by foraging for seasonal greens, branches and garlands in your own backyard (or local nursery or tree farm!). Enhance your fireplace mantel, entryway table or centerpiece with this fresh holiday look.
Think beyond the front door with wreaths this year by making space for them indoors. Mirrors, windows, and oversized artwork make for great backdrops for faux and fresh wreaths – hang with a red ribbon for extra merry.
Entertaining
While the pandemic has upended holiday gatherings, that doesn’t mean we can’t still party and make the most of the season with our nearest and dearest at home (four-legged roommates, included).
Find a large platter or surface in your kitchen and get creative with a do-it-yourself charcuterie, cheese, or dessert board. And if you haven’t yet, now’s the time to learn how to be your own bartender and perfect your favorite drink…at home.
Set up at-home theater vibes for watching your favorite holiday movies. Stock up on fresh popcorn and candy, dim the twinkle lights and cozy up with extra pillows and throws.
This one is a no-brainer – curate the ultimate holiday playlist and press play to provide a festive soundtrack for all aforementioned activities!
Gifting
